Michael L. Wepsiec
Michael L. Wepsiec is the current Jackson County State’s Attorney and has been since November of 1993. Prior to becoming State’s Attorney, Mike was the City Attorney for Carbondale, IL. Previous to that position, he was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Jackson County for five and one-half years, beginning in February of 1985. From January, 1982 through January of 1985, he clerked for a federal magistrate in Chicago, IL.
Mike is a 1978 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He received his law degree from De Paul University College of Law in 1981 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar that same year. Mike has tried more than 200 cases in his career and has argued several cases before the Illinois Appellate Court, Fifth District in Mt. Vernon.
