Title: Assistant State’s Attorney
Summary:
The Marion County State’s Attorney’s Office is currently seeking applicants for an assistant state’s attorney. This is a full-time position in which the attorney will be responsible for prosecuting felony offenses. A minimum of 3 years experience in criminal prosecution or defense is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of the Illinois Rules of Evidence and the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Description:
Individuals must be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and in good standing. The attorney will be prosecuting felony criminal matters, including handling preliminary hearings, motion hearings, jury/bench trials, sentencing hearings, petitions to revoke, and post-conviction petitions. The attorney can expect to be in court two to three days per week, with the remaining days allotted for office preparation. The attorney will need to be proficient in both researching and drafting legal documents, as well as engaging in negotiations with opposing counsel. It will also be necessary for the attorney to subpoena and meet with witnesses necessary to the prosecution of said matters. Prior felony and jury trial experience is strongly preferred. Other duties consistent with those of a small 4 attorney state’s attorney’s office (such as pay or appears, new prisoner bond hearings, mental health hearings, civil hearings, etc.) could be assigned on an as needed basis.
