Title: Assistant State's Attorney


The Knox County State's Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced attorney, licensed in the State of Illinois for Assistant State's Attorney position to primarily handle felony matters. Applicants must be currently licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois. Previous profession experience in prosecution, criminal law or litigation is required, with a minimum of three years of experience strongly preferred. A successful applicant must be skilled in trial advocacy, communication, organization and demonstrate good judgment.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will be the prosecution of all types of cases, but primarily felony matters. This includes 1. Coordinating witnesses & preparing them for court 2. Gathering evidence 3. Developing trial strategy 4. Preparing for pre-and post-trial motions, subpoenas and other legal documents 5. Determining which cases are prosecuted by plea, trial or dismissed 6. Gathering and analyzing evidence in the case and represents the interests of the County at arraignment, bench trial, jury trial or sentencing hearing 7. Reviewing police reports and determining criminal charges, obtaining arrest warrants, securing additional information from law enforcement personnel, when required. 8. Assembling case data including reports from a variety of law enforcement or regulatory agency records to determine trial strategy. 9. Engaging in pre-trial negotiations, when appropriate, in order to dispose of cases prior to the trial date and reduce the court docket and expenditures. 10. Meeting regularly with a variety of government, social service and law enforcement organizations and special committees. And any other duties as assigned.
