The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking an attorney to join its Civil Division as an Assistant State’s Attorney. The Civil Division is a dynamic team of in-house legal counsel working to provide high-quality legal services to the County of McHenry and its elected and appointed officials.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE: • Legal research and issuing legal opinions on a wide range of topics involving local government • Drafting and reviewing contracts • Defending and prosecuting legal actions on behalf of McHenry County in state and federal courts and in administrative proceedings • Prosecuting county ordinance violations • Advising the county board and other public bodies on issues relating to government transparency including the Illinois Open Meetings Act and Illinois Freedom of Information Act QUALIFICATIONS • A license in good standing to practice law in the State of Illinois • Excellent legal research and writing skills • The ability to prepare and present legal advice in a clear and effective manner for different types of clients • A reputation of exhibiting high ethical standards and strict adherence to the Rules of Professional Conduct PREFERRED PRIOR EXPERIENCE • Experience handling state and/or federal litigation including motion practice, discovery and trial work • Knowledge of contract and transactional law • Background in any of these legal areas: planning and zoning, labor and employment, local government transparency, child support, mental health, condemnation, the Illinois Counties Code, election law, real estate taxation, federal civil rights, personal injury litigation, nursing home and health law BENEFITS McHenry County offers an excellent benefits package which includes: Medical/Dental/Vision/Accident/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, IMRF Pension Plan, Deferred Compensation Plan through Nationwide Retirement Solutions, Paid Vacation, Sick, Personal Days and Holidays Please submit cover letter, resume, and maximum three-page writing sample via email or email to: Susan Rouse Communications Coordinator McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office 2200 N.
