Title: Assistant State’s Attorney (Juvenile Division)
The Marion County State’s Attorney’s Office is currently seeking an attorney to fill a vacancy in the juvenile division. This is a full-time position in which the attorney will be responsible for prosecuting juvenile delinquency matters, abuse and neglect petitions, truancy petitions and dependency petitions. Both entry level and experienced attorneys are encouraged to apply.
Individuals must be licensed to practice in the state of Illinois. The attorney will be prosecuting juvenile delinquency matters, abuse and neglect petitions, truancy petitions and dependency petitions. The attorney can expect to be in Court two days per week, with the remaining three days allotted for office preparation. The attorney will be responsible for reviewing both police and D.C.F.S. reports to determine the appropriate petitions and motions to be filed, as well as then subsequently preparing and prosecuting said matters. The attorney will need to be proficient in both researching and drafting legal documents, as well as engaging in negotiations with opposing counsel. It will also be necessary for the attorney to subpoena and meet with witnesses necessary to the prosecution of said petitions/motions. While experience is always a bonus, entry level attorneys who show both motivation and enthusiasm can be trained.
