J. Hanley

J. Hanley is the 19th State’s Attorney to serve the people of Winnebago County, Illinois. He was elected into office on December 1, 2020.

 

Born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, J. Hanley understands what makes this community “tick” and he takes pride in advocating on behalf of the citizens of Winnebago County.

 

J. possesses a strong sense of community and desire to serve others. Much of his personal and professional life has been dedicated to the people of Winnebago County. J. and his wife are foster parents and he has dedicated his time and talents to great organizations like the YMCA and United Way. A prosecutor at heart, J. started his career as an Assistant State’s Attorney here in Winnebago County and then went on to become an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Arizona. While there, J.’s investigation team was awarded the Homeland Security Investigations Executive Associate Director’s 2010 Annual Award for Outstanding Investigative Accomplishments in Human Smuggling.
